Tai Chi and Qigong: Same Root, Different Branches

Large oak tree draped in Spanish moss, symbolizing the shared root of Tai Chi and Qigong

A student asked me recently, Isn't Tai Chi and Qigong the same thing?

My short answer: yes and no.

They share the same root — both grounded in moving and cultivating Qi through the body, both aimed at the same underlying goal. But Tai Chi is really one branch that grew out of that root system, not a stand-in for the whole tradition. Once you know what to look for, you can actually see the difference just by watching how the movement unfolds.

This is just the beginning of the thread — I follow it further on Substack. Read the full piece on Substack.

If this is speaking to something in you, come move it through your body. I teach Qigong Thursdays and Saturdays at 9:30am at Collective Wellness of Summerville — no experience needed, just come as you are. Reserve your spot.
